Curtains Up
An Elementary Musical Theatre Experience

Funded by a generous grant from HEARTS (Helping Enrich the Arts in Port Washington), Curtain's Up is an afterschool musical theatre program/club for all fourth and fifth grade students in the Port Washington School District. The students involved will put on a full musical production (that is age appropriate) containing singing, dancing, acting, costumes, and scenery. Through this program and experience, students should be able to learn musical theatre skills as well as cooperation, social, and self-esteem skills.

Co-advisors Allison Friedman and Stacey Medford have over fifteen years of combined music, dance, and theatre experience. For the last three years they have worked together on the Weber Middle School drama club productions (Legally Blonde, Footloose, Bye Bye Birdie, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat). They are very excited to take on this new endeavor!

The goal of Curtain's Up is to teach acting, theatre, singing, and dance skills through the process of putting on a full-scale musical production. Students will also be able to showcase their talents and abilities in a public performance. Through being part of a cast and working together to put on a show, students should be able to discover new interests, build self-confidence, and develop a sense of community.
